IPR refers to legal rights granted over creations of the mind — inventions, trademarks, literary and artistic works, designs, and symbols. These rights enable creators to benefit from their work and prevent unauthorised use by others.
A patent gives the inventor exclusive rights to make, use, sell, or license their invention for typically 20 years from the filing date. It prevents others from commercially exploiting the invention without the patent holder's permission.
The process typically takes 1–2 years. An examination report is issued within 1–2 months of filing, after which the mark is published for a 4-month opposition window. Filing immediately establishes priority, providing protection from the application date.
Copyright arises automatically upon creation of an original work. However, registration provides a public record and is essential evidence in infringement proceedings. We recommend registering valuable works to ensure stronger legal protection.
